BLINK Cincinnati

I provided 3D scanning and modeling for BLINK Cincinnati, working with the animation team, executive director, and muralist to bring realistic depth to projected imagery. My portfolio documents the 2022 Kenner toy mural project; my BLINK work also includes 2024.

From the original toys to digital assets

For the 2022 installation, the original muralist supplied vintage Kenner toys for scanning. I worked with the executive director and the projection team to deliver 3D assets that could support the animation’s relationship to the mural.

The work joined physical objects, digital geometry, animation, and the architectural surface of the installation. My responsibility centered on scanning and modeling within that collaboration.

A material problem

Highly reflective objects were difficult to scan. I used an evaporating matte scanning spray to address reflectivity before capturing the objects. This practical adjustment helped make their surfaces available for the scanning process.

I became certified in 3D scanning with an Artec scanner at the University of Cincinnati Innovation Hub’s makerspace.
